(Cross-posted from the Docs Blog.)
One of the key features of Google Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office is the ability to easily sync Office documents up to Google Docs and to collaborate on them with others. You asked us to simplify the experience of downloading and opening Office documents stored in your Google Docs account, so today we’re doing just that. Now you can open any Office file stored in Google Docs directly from within Microsoft Office.
From the Google Cloud Connect menu, click Open from Google Docs…

This will bring up a dialog listing all the documents that can be opened with the application you are using. For example, if you are working in Microsoft PowerPoint, you will see a list of all the Microsoft PowerPoint files available in Google Docs. You can then select the file you want to download and open.

If you have a lot of files stored in Google Docs, use search to find the file you are looking for. After selecting a file to open, the file will be downloaded to your computer and opened automatically.
When you want to open the file again, you’ll be able to open it from the folder you downloaded the file into. Now you can collaborate, share and access revision history on that file in Microsoft Office.
As always, please send us your feedback and thoughts.

How about a link to download the software? I had to search to find:

Excellent work.
Now you just need the Cloud Connect plugin to work for any file on the pc, not just while inside MS Office. Something like a "G" Drive that connect to the cloud. Then you can open google docs or other files right from the file system or desktop shortcuts.
I'm fine with this being posted on the Docs Blog, but it seems woefully short of an enterprise feature.
Is Cloud Connect still only available for the Windows version of Office? Are there plans for a Mac version? How about a similar plugin for OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice?
I just want to know if there is any compatibly issue for this tool.As I have more then 20 word files in G Docs but when I opened via connector it only shows 4 files and I am unable to search as well. Same is the case with excel files.
There is something I do not understand. Is there an add on to MS Office I have to download for using this?
Is there Mac OS X version?
Thanks again :)
Might you have a version available for office for Mac 2011 in the near future?
Great job! The next killer feature for Google documents is to provide ODBC driver for java and PHP so we can use it as a database

Any chance of Google Cloud Connect converting the Office files to Google format when saving to G Docs so document can be edited online, and then converting back to Office format when reopening with Office like SyncDocs does?
POC - OpenOffice already has a plug-in connector for G Docs. Go to OpenOffice.org and search for the plugins.
It's such a shame that our Google Apps for Education hosted accounts give a "Unauthorized Error 401" when clicking "Open Google Docs..." link.
I would love to have a Mac OS X / Office 2011 version of Cloud Connect..
I am very surprised to see Google Cloud connect is not available for Linux, any reason or is it the "WORK IN PROGRESS" tag ;-)
Please add support for importing native Google Docs to Office and uploading to either format like OffiSync offers. This is the biggest deal-breaker with CC aside from the ugly and massive interface.
