Google Apps shared contacts, now with double the capacity
Thursday, November 18, 2010
Starting today, Google Apps for Business, Education and Government customers have space for twice as many contacts as before in their organization’s shared contacts. IT administrators told us that they needed more capacity, so we upped the limit from 25,000 to 50,000 entries. Shared contacts are part of the organization’s global address list (GAL), and these contacts auto-complete across Google Apps to help employees work faster and more accurately. Once you start typing to address an email message, invite colleagues to a calendar event, or share a Google Docs file, you can just click a recipient’s name to complete the entry.

great news (not for me actually and my small business)...I thought it would be great to have send vcard function integrated with email/contacts management...
Autocomplete is good but my users want also to SEE the GAL details, like telephone numbers, etc..
I know I can search a see the detail but they mix up with the same contact one can already have in My contacts and merge is not sufficient.
Why can't you show the contacts under a Global Address List section in each user contact page.
This is the biggest complaint from my users, the mess with contacts.
When are you going to make Contact and Contact Groups truly shareable in the same was calendars are, in gmail?
But, why can't you people make an option for the GAL as well as the domain contacts and groups to appear inside each user's Contacts. I think that is more important.
This is great news. Any plans to enable industry-standard CardDAV as an alternative API for the shared (and non-shared) contacts?
Great !!! ... but is any way to send more than 500 emails per day ... at bussines some times is necessary send many mails in one day.
I wish I could have shared contacts that only exist within one suborganization. I really need a set of staff-only shared contacts that isn't readily visible to our students.
When there will be a control panel to manage the Shared Contacts ? I cannot certainly ask my users to use an API ! What we really need is to be able to create Shared Contacts for all the domain through the Contacts interface !!! I was considering using Gapps in my businness but the lack of this feature is amazing (in worse)
On the way to choose Google Apps but I need a true and actionable tool to share contacts among all the organization...
Wait wait wait
My best

Anything short of a GUI button that says 'Import' on it is a FAIL.
Kudos +1 to Chris M. Needs a GUI to import Shared Domain Contacts.
